The potential changes in out of hours health care, which are the result of the new GP Contract, is a
subject which has caused considerable concern in the community.
In 2004, the Community Council prepared a report in response to the proposal by NHS Highland to create a 'cluster'
incorporating Applecross, Lochcarron and Torridon for 'Out of Hours' health care.
This report was circulated to senior NHS Highland officials, the First Minister, the Health Minister, and
Members of the Scottish Parliament explaining our position.
A Press Release was also issued to leading newspapers.
The report is in eight sections and can be accessed by the links to the left. Alternatively, it may be downloaded in PDF format from the link below.

The representations to the relevant authorities have been successful in that NHS Highland has decided
that Applecross will not now be forced into a cluster with Torridon and Lochcarron but will remain on its own
with out-of-hours cover being provided by the local GP.
This situation may, however, change when Dr Cargill and Dr Barber retire. A Community Council representative regularly attends meetings regarding the future of Out of Hours provision in Applecross.
